Yes Tater, maybe I was in a pissy "jaded" mood when I wrote my reflection on Navy leadership.

I know all about the skaters, ahh the days when 1 or 2 ELTs ran the works of the entire division because it was easier than re-working half assed attempts at maintenance and admin. But, like I said the Navy show had to go on and the work had to get done.

I understand that people just don't up and quit and I expect I will eventually take issue with a superior as well as me pissing off someone else, but still have to get r dun.

Motivating sailors is a tricky business, since you can't promise extra money and promotions in the same way that some private companies operate which I think fosters the whole "skating" mentality you mentioned.

I ended up bribing my guys with pizza, beer, dinners out, and "days off" on the low-low (if you get my drift) for jobs well done to keep them motivated.

I don't expect shangri-la when I enter civilian land or a perfect application  of a utopian system of distributed perks and allowances, but hopefully I will be working for people who have a grasp of where they came from. Dare to dream!!!

And I have not been sniffing glue, just whiffs of 30% Aqueous Ammonia.
