Naivete by the public and more so our legislators about radiation rival the NIMBYs in anti-nuclear attitudes.

"There is no safe level of radiation, and ALARA is a foundational safeguard that protects workers and surrounding communities," Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) told POLITICO's E&E News after DOE stripped the standard from its regulations.

There is no such thing as zero radiation and radiation hormesis that states low level radiation may even be good for you, is gaining support. Think about it, radiation is used to kill cancer cells. Married people get two millirem a year sleeping together maybe Rep. DeGette will make her husband sleep in another bed to practice ALARA. 🤣
Average background radiation we all receive each year is 310 millirem. Radon Gas: The largest contributor to natural radiation exposure in the U.S., radon is a radioactive gas released from soil and rocks and can accumulate indoors, especially in basements and poorly ventilated areas. Cosmic Radiation: High-energy particles from the sun and stars contribute to background radiation. Exposure increases with altitude, so residents of high-altitude cities like Denver receive higher doses than those at sea level. Terrestrial Radiation: Naturally occurring radioactive elements such as uranium, thorium, and their decay products in soil, rocks, and water contribute to radiation exposure. Potassium-40 in food and the human body also adds a small dose. Internal Radiation: Trace amounts of radioactive isotopes, including potassium-40 and radium-226, are naturally present in the human body.
