Kairos Power began construction on the Hermes 2 demonstration facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, following a site groundbreaking on April 17. The project utilizes a fluoride salt-cooled reactor design to supply 50 MW of electricity to the Tennessee Valley Authority grid by 2030. Reactor modules will be fabricated in New Mexico before being shipped to the site for final assembly.

Kairos Power broke ground on its Hermes 2 plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on April 17. Under an agreement with Google, the Hermes 2 fluoride salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor will produce 50 MW of clean electricity for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) grid.

Kairos will fabricate Hermes 2 reactor equipment modules at its manufacturing campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and ship them to Oak Ridge for assembly.
