US enrichment plant begins accelerated review

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has committed to a 12-month timeline for the technical review of Orano Enrichment USA's license application for the Project IKE facility in Tennessee. This accelerated schedule moves the proposed gas centrifuge uranium enrichment plant closer to potential construction and operational status. The review process will evaluate the technical documentation and environmental reports submitted by the company earlier this year.

Orano submitted the technical licensing documentation and Environmental Report for the gas centrifuge uranium enrichment facility planned for Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) earlier this year. The regulator's formal acceptance means that the application moves into full technical review for granting a licence to begin construction and then to operate the facility.
