Donald E. Robbins


Donald Edgar Robbins, 61, of Ruffsdale, died suddenly Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, in Excela Health Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born Aug. 12, 1944, in Unionville, N.Y., he was a son of the late Albert Sr. and Phoebe DeVore Robbins. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as a machinist mate master chief E9 with 22 years of service on the following nuclear submarines: USS Sea Leopard SS 483, USS Alexander Hamilton SSBN 617, USS Nathan Hale SSBN 623, USS Hawkbill SSN 666 and USS Kamehameha SSBN 642. He retired honorably from the Navy with an impeccable service record. Mr. Robbins retired from Westinghouse Nuclear Refueling Division as field service engineer with 20 years of service, and was the winner of the Westinghouse Award for Service Excellence. He was at the top of the nuclear refueling field in the U.S. and Europe.
