USNavy's Nuclear Youtube
« on: Nov 25, 2009, 05:41 »
While scoping out Youtube, I found that the official USNavy youtube channel has two nuclear-related videos on it.  Both of the videos are about officers, and they are recently uploaded (within the last month or so).

Nuclear Officer Carrier

Nuclear Officer Anthem

Being enlisted and still in the pipeline, there's not a whole lot here for me to comment on, but I thought it'd be good to share.

I take no stock in any video in which an Ensign is permitted to appear on camera with his ribbons on backwards. Unless of course regs have changed since I last got dressed...

Would it be bad to say I didn't see the ensign with the backward ribbons?

Oh boy, I guess I'll learn it in boot...

Probably just flipped the image in the video editing.

edit: no excuse though for there to be no QA done to the vid. I seriously doubt it was the guy wearing them backwards.

Nope, he's wearing them backwards...  or upside down.  Either one applies in this situation.

It amazes me the Navy didn't catch it.  Just goes to prove why everyone teases ensigns...  They don't even dress correctly.

Mike,

I won't give you the answer, but I'll give you the tools to answer your question.

Take a look at this site http://www.americanwarlibrary.com/display/usn.htm paying particular attention to the National Defense Service Medal and the rifle and pistol marksmanship awards.  They're listed in order of precedence.  Higher on the list means on a higher row (if more than 3 you start a new row) or closer to the heart if on the same row(middle of the shirt).

Then watch the video again and you'll see it!

I was able to actually watch it just now. Yea, that sucks. I really wanted it to be editing for the poor guy.

It happens pretty often when you're new.  Especially when you have 2 or 3 ribbons.

He's definitely not the only one to have ever done it, he just got caught on video.

Jay,

Without even looking at the vid I do recall the Ensign with the National Defense Service medal on the RIGHT of the Rifle and Marksmanship medal. I recognized the medal because my brother had the same one coming out of boot camp, along with his pistol one. I knew there was a precedence but I wasn't sure what the 2 first medals were by memory. Thanks for the help!

If it was video editing flipping the image, we'd be sitting here making fun of him for switching his ribbons with his nametag slot. (NDSM would still be closest to his heart.)  Correct me if I'm wrong, but MOST nuke ensigns with pistol and rifle are Boat School guys no?

You would think that it would be harder to screw this up once you got your fourth ribbon, but sadly I've seen JO's with the almighty top heavy rack.

Never leave your dress uniforms laying around the shop. You may very well reenlist with your DH asking when they started making subs that could do barrel rolls.  :D
