I am trying to get a grade waiver? what is the likelyhood of receiving it?

Hello all,

I scored a 96 on the asvab and have line scores to get me in as a nuke1a. I didn't have a back ground in any physics or chemistry, but I opted to take the NAPT and I passed because I need a waiver for my previous grades in highschool.. I had a very reasonable explaination for my bad grades in high school and I spoke with the nuke coordinater in my area and he said that he is optimistic about getting me a waiver. They said it would be two months before they would hear back. If anyone has any information about the likelyhood of getting a waiver please respond.

Thanks for your optimism I hope I get it no problem as well! Unfortunately I can't even enlist till I get this waiver which has me pretty bummed out because I have an eagerness to serve my country as well, but with the Nuke Coordinator's recommendation for entry into the Nuclear Power School I feel very hopeful. The wait is going to kill me.

What did you use for your excuse,,, an ABABUS?  

Just wondering,,, was it a "rounding error" (sic)?  

Okay,,, on topic,,, we have/had a user that had upwards of over 14 waivers and bragged about it.  In the day of Noah's Navy (e.g. most of us posters here at NW are members) if you had one waiver it was odd.

Nowadays with smaller groups / class sizes and the economy (i.e. further shrinking of the navy's fleet) it would reason that things would get more competitive.  Therefore making it worth your while not to have to have any more waivers than the other guy/gal.

Just sayin,,, I hope this is your only waiver.

howdy. i'm in a somewhat similar situation. i've got 4 years of college under my belt, but only 1 math class taken within those 4 years (only 1 math class was required for my degree). 5+ years ago in high school, i received all A's in my algebra and calc classes, but I need a waiver because I dropped out of Algebra 2 Honors, and took just plain ol' Algebra 2 instead (got an A in that). Alg. 2H appeared on my transcript, but with no final grade. my recruiter assured me that i need to get a grade waiver for that, and he has never seen a grade waiver rejected. he also said that when considering passing or rejecting waivers, they may or may not take your asvab scores into account. i may have to take the NAPT despite my score of 99 on the ASVAB, because i've only taken 1 math class in the past like, 6 years.

in addition, he also informed me (although he was not entirely sure) that there is a point system that the navy uses in order to determine your eligibility for the nuke program based on the math classes you've taken within the past couple years. for example: a grade of "A" in an algebra or higher level math class is worth 20 points, "B" is 15 points, etc. he also said that how long ago you took the math classes affected how many points they were worth. AND he also said that if he was indeed correct when he heard about this, then the requirement is at least 50 points. but he could be wrong. god only knows. i await my phone call today which will tell me whether or not i made it in.

he also told me that the nuke program is currently locked out for females. you're in a better off situation than i am at the moment. best of luck to you.

It's not an excuse. It was simply an explaination . It's a pretty personal story, but long story short.. Mom was a drug addict and I became homeless.

I'm sorry to hear that navy nukes are closed to women at this time. I took the NAPT so that they wouldn't have a reason to keep me from going nuke, even though I qualified as a Nuke1a.
