A new pro-nuclear power documentary has come out. The summary of movie is below. Makes some very valid points that are absolutely key to keeping the Nuclear Power issue relevant.

"A feature-length documentary about the history and future of nuclear power. The film explores how and why mankind's most feared and controversial technological discovery is now passionately embraced by many of those who once led the charge against it. Operating as history, cultural meditation and contemporary exploration, PANDORA'S PROMISE aims to inspire a serious and realistic debate over what is without question the most important question of our time: how do we continue to power modern civilization without destroying it?

This is a road into the public discussion, to pique their interest, to show Avg. Joe Citizen that there can be a harmonious co-habitation between nuclear power & the suburbs & schools & churches, etc. Our country needs to finally recognize nuclear power as a viable & clean alternative.

Also wouldn't hurt for those of us in the industry to be the most vocal & educated advocates for nuclear power. Makes sense to me.  +K

Thanks for pointing this documentary out and I look forward to seeing it.  Mainly, because I'm all for nuclear power, but it's hard to see a future for it with the high level waste it generates.  Especially, when you consider that it will be around for generations and there's currently no acceptable plan on how to dispose of it.  I also don't see new units like the Westinghouse AP1000 being the answer (although its passive safety features do look promising), and hopefully I'm wrong because we all know the demand for energy will only increase and coal is not the answer.

thorium, thorium, and more thorium for all new plants.  no reason to be using 1960's/uranium technology.  thorium is more plentiful and doesn't generate TRU.

When southern diseases, like malaria, migrate north due to climate change and infect victims of disasters like Hurricane Sandy we will see nuclear power plants built with the same collective sense of unselfishness and urgency we saw with the Manhattan Project. We will build what we know best...PWR.

Shippingport's last run was almost five years as a thorium converter core.
First core was UO2 and ran from '57-'64.

Second core was UO2 and ran from '65-'74.

Third core was LWBR with Th-U233 core and ran from '77-82.

Coming up this Thursday.

Marlin

Just finished watching it. It was not what I expected but was better than I expected. If you did not see it you should and recommend it to others in particular skeptical nuclear power types.

Ksheed

I did not watch it, yet. There were two very good football games on last night that I was not going to miss watching live. I set my DVR to record Pandora's Promise. I plan on watching it this weekend.

Bonds 25

I also DVR'd it and plan on watching it tonight.
