Cell Phone - Question - Goose Creek - A School - Nuclear Navy Training Pipeline

NF ( Nuclear Field ) A Schools & Navy Nuclear Power School co-located
and part of  NNPTC  ( Navy Nuclear Power Training Command )
Goose Creek, SC  just North of Charleston, South Carolina

Is  there  any   type  of  cell phones ( telephones )  students  are  allowed
to  carry with them into  the  class room/study portions  of  A  school  ?

************   Executive  Summary of Responses Below    *************

All Student Cell Phones, of all types, are banned from being carried into the
more restricted areas of school campus
including Class Rooms, Independent Study and Tutorial Areas of the School.

Cell Phones may be carried, even while in uniform, on the Residential
and Recreational portions of the School Campus.

Navy Regulations related to the manner of carry, use and appearance of
cell phones while in uniform apply.

Thanks to Yota, GC, Tymekeeper, Mizz Yung and Charlie for providing the information below.

Any Errors in this executive summary are mine alone ( dad ).

By  type  I mean cell phones  which
Do NOT have cameras built in, and,
Do NOT have audio nor video recorders built in, and,
Do NOT have GPS built in,
   Just dumb telephones.

Or  are all student cell phones  prohibited from  the secure portions of the installation ?

For  the  record  I am  aware there are discussions of cell phones being  allowed
in and  around   BEQs:
http://www.nukeworker.com/forum/index.php/topic,12947.0.html

and,  I am aware that in most cases Sailors can carry cell phones
while in uniform subject to some limitations and specific installation exceptions.

Several  hours  were expended researching  this  and other questions
before creating this new topic.

Superb  forum  by  the  way.   Nice  balance  between  open  communications
and moderation.  Thanks to the moderators for their investment of time.

I think a better question is whether or not you can get a "dumb" phone anymore.  I am not even sure if they make cells phones without cameras anymore.

On the otherhand, I am pretty sure that they will never let students into the secure part of the building with a phone at anytime considering they didn't even let the staff members at prototype have phones on them.

The better answer, to your better question, is if you bought four (4) Nokia 6010 phones six years ago,
all four of them will likely still work, at least our four do.

And, yes, they have no Camera, no Video and no GPS.  One of them is still the only cell phone I carry ... I know ... old school.

You could buy one from me, except I am not sure if private party sales of non-GPS cell phones are still legal.
Owning and using them is still legal, but retail sales of non-GPS cell phones in the United States has been banned.

I would still appreciate an answer from anyone who has current knowledge on A school policy.

I am not familiar with A School policy, but I do know that they still make dumb phones. I have worked at nuclear plants where the policy is no unauthorized cameras on site, so a phone with a built in camera would require you to walk back to the parking lot and leave it in the car.

AT&T had a Samsung flip phone (A117 I think) and there is a blackberrry version without a camera that I saw on the AT&T web site. I have also been known to buy a used one from ebay so I didn't have to renew my contract.

1.  You can buy a pallet of phones on eBay...it is getting a cell provider to activate your phone vs. selling you theirs that might be the impediment.

2.  Although I'm no staffer, I imagine the logic might run along the lines of "You are a sailor here to learn, this isn't college, who is going to be calling you that is more important than your chain of command?!? Now drop and give me 20!! "

A lot of  things,  might be, or might not be,
the fact of the matter is that if your currently using  AT&T or TMobile cell service
it is just a matter of moving the SIM card from one AT&T phone to another,
or  one TMobile to another, nothing "might be" about it.

True statement.

When inside the building, a student has one responsibility and that is to put forth maximum effort in regards to studying the material presented. I honestly couldn't imagine having to deal with my phone going off while i'm trying to study.

The only ones allowed to carry a phone in the building are staff

Phew glad I read your whole post!

Anyway, your son CAN have a phone any time, EXCEPT in the building. He's not even allowed an ipod or anything like. No form of data storage is permitted. Dumb phones even, are NOT ALLOWED.

Partially true. Only staff members issued a command phone which is labeled with a Naval Reactors approval sticker can have phones in the building.

The only thing we need to bring into the building is the right uniform and our game face, cause s#*! gets crazy in the Rickover and you could get behind very quickly if you don't stay on top of the vast amounts of information they want you to be able to memorize for recite with great understanding on* a graded evolution.  ;D

3 weeks left...  :) :) :) ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
