I recently graduated from engineering school.
My major was chemical engineering, and my GPA was 3.74.
I have applied for NUPOC program with Naval reactor engineer position.
However, my recruiter recommend me to apply for instructor position. I assume that I am not qualified for reactor engineer.
When I searched about the instructor position, the instructor position seems not have a good career path.
So, I am thinking that it might be better to apply for nuclear submarine officer than instructor to me.
How do you guys think about this?

If you want to be an NR engineer, apply to be an NR engineer.

I work in the NUPOC Program Management office at the Navy Recruiting Command.  Please PM me your contact info and I will reach out to you to discuss your options and whether or not you are competitive for the Naval Reactors Engineer position.  I recommend reading all of the information on the following webpage that is maintained by my office:  https://nupocaccessions.blogspot.com/

TLSGJK94,

You're recruiter likely pushed you towards instructor because we are nearly full for the available fiscal years for NR Engineer.  Once your application is submitted we (well, us and then Naval Reactors who make the final determination)will evaluate you for your academic qualifications for NR Engineer and the other programs.  Unfortunately, IF there are not positions available for an NR Engineer with your academic background at that time it is possible that you would not be able to interview for an NRE position irrespective of qualifications.

Having said that, I'm not sure what availability may or may not be at the moment or of whether or not you're qualified (you're in the ballpark based on GPA, but your test scores and University come into play also) so your best bet for now is to submit the application and do some research on our website (in my signature line and in Matt's post above) to see if you would be interested in other programs should NRE not be a possibility.

Cheers,
Brian
