In the article "Oak Ridge Repurposes Facility to Test New Cleanup Technologies", I worked on the project to clean out the sediment stored there. Pond sediment had volatiles and semi vols that ended up being cheaper to store and let them cook off rather than process. Much of the crew had been in the coal fly ash spill in nearby Kingston TN. They were not a trusting lot they were denied respiratory protection, and the fly ash was not wetted down during work. A bit of a sore spot while they worked in the building removing the pond sediment.
