Hello everyone, I have a couple questions regarding waivers. I searched the board last night and this morning for all the information, but I don't think anything quite fits into my situation.
First off, I did very well in high school, graduating with a 3.9 unweighted gpa and while my study habits were very poor, I still knew how to study. College came around, and I just wasn't ready for a big time college, so I went back to a local community college. I went to a recruiters office with my good friend who is currently in last summer, and I scored a 97 on the practice ASVAB, so the academics aren't what I'm worried about so much (I'm not underestimating the schooling in the Navy by anymeans, however).
However, I have some things that will go against me. My mom thought that putting me on ADD medicine last year would help me through college, yet it really didn't do much for me so I stopped taking my medication. I realize I have to wait a year from then to apply, and I'm fully ok with it.
I also have had surgery twice on my knee because of injuries in high school, but that has had time to heal up properly and no longer gives me any problems. I still can run, swim, work, etc. without any pain or discomfort, so I think that might be easy to get? I'm not sure.
The main problem I see is my criminal record. When I was 17 (will be 20 at the end of April), a "friend" of mine talked me into putting some razor blades in my pocket from a local Wal-Mart, and I got caught, and charged with retail fraud 3rd degree (Edit: it was expunged after 6 months). I have definitely learned my lesson, and if that was it I would be confident in getting in, but last summer I was living with a group of friends and one of them threw a graduation party while I was at work, and as I was getting home the cops showed up and gave out 5 MIPs. I was unaware of the party until I got home and didn't have time to do anything, but my name was on the lease so on the advice of my lawyer, I plead guilty to avoid a harsher sentence/potential jail time (I ended up paying 375 in fines, but thats it. Two of the other roommates were there the whole time and got off by pleading not guilty). So there is that too.. =/
And if that isn't enough, I cannot pass the colorblind test (at least with the numbers). I think I read this is non-waiverable? I do know my colors, so maybe I could pass the FALANT test (haven't ever tried). I actually am working right now at a local factory inspecting paint, and have never once had a complaint come back or any trouble doing my job.
Thanks in advance, Matt.
