Getting into the program, too many waivers?

Hello everyone, I have a couple questions regarding waivers. I searched the board last night and this morning for all the information, but I don't think anything quite fits into my situation.

First off, I did very well in high school, graduating with a 3.9 unweighted gpa and while my study habits were very poor, I still knew how to study.  College came around, and I just wasn't ready for a big time college, so I went back to a local community college.  I went to a recruiters office with my good friend who is currently in last summer, and I scored a 97 on the practice ASVAB, so the academics aren't what I'm worried about so much (I'm not underestimating the schooling in the Navy by anymeans, however).

However, I have some things that will go against me.  My mom thought that putting me on ADD medicine last year would help me through college, yet it really didn't do much for me so I stopped taking my medication.  I realize I have to wait a year from then to apply, and I'm fully ok with it.

I also have had surgery twice on my knee because of injuries in high school, but that has had time to heal up properly and no longer gives me any problems.  I still can run, swim, work, etc. without any pain or discomfort, so I think that might be easy to get? I'm not sure.

The main problem I see is my criminal record.  When I was 17 (will be 20 at the end of April), a "friend" of mine talked me into putting some razor blades in my pocket from a local Wal-Mart, and I got caught, and charged with retail fraud 3rd degree (Edit: it was expunged after 6 months).  I have definitely learned my lesson, and if that was it I would be confident in getting in, but last summer I was living with a group of friends and one of them threw a graduation party while I was at work, and as I was getting home the cops showed up and gave out 5 MIPs.  I was unaware of the party until I got home and didn't have time to do anything, but my name was on the lease so on the advice of my lawyer, I plead guilty to avoid a harsher sentence/potential jail time (I ended up paying 375 in fines, but thats it.  Two of the other roommates were there the whole time and got off by pleading not guilty).  So there is that too.. =/

And if that isn't enough, I cannot pass the colorblind test (at least with the numbers).  I think I read this is non-waiverable?  I do know my colors, so maybe I could pass the FALANT test (haven't ever tried).  I actually am working right now at a local factory inspecting paint, and have never once had a complaint come back or any trouble doing my job.

Thanks in advance, Matt.

When I served, in a galaxy far far away (it seems that way nowdays), this was not waiverable.

Again, so was being color deficient.

But, the rest is waiverable.  You do have to remember you are competing against those that may need zero waivers.

Life isn't fair.  Not everyone wins in life.  Unlike the no winner or looser games kids play today.

If you search my posts alone, you would find answerds to all your questions. Stop being lazy.

I rarely agree with Charlie Murphy, but in his service time he did experience pretty much all of the hoops you may eventually need to jump. You  may benefit from a deep search and reading of his gazillion posts! ;)

Sorry in advance, I'm not a Navy Nuke - why is the ADD medication not waiverable? or is it the ADD itself that is not waiverable?

I was more or less looking for if the amount of waivers was too much, and I still haven't found where this has been discussed? I did, however, find where "color deficient" is able to be waivered, so thanks for that.

So it sounds like there is no set limit? Just having a lower amount gives you a better chance?

I'll admit I haven't talked to a recruiter about any of this yet, because I'm just trying to get a grasp of all the hurdles I'll face ahead of time.

He is an industry expert who has contributed four books, countless articles, speeches, letters, and testimony that changed modern analysis. He has qualified on 4 platforms and trained many to the same qualifications. His commentary is some of the most respected in the nuclear industry and serves on several boards as a senior member...........

That would describe someone else. But CM does have a whole lot of posts.... Good luck sorting through those....  [dowave]

Does he have to circle/slash?

He is not being lazy. His very posting here proves that.

Him not searching will be lazy. I have literally answered all of his questions multiple times. If you were a member a year or so ago you'd know that.... oh... yeah....

So he can't find a couple of posts in a thousand and he is lazy? Help him out or not. Either way, please spare us your inane drivel.

I have. I even took the time to help him do the search. Until you google references and help him yourself you can shut your mouth.

Do you REALLY have to have the last word?   You CAN'T let it go?  YOU cant drop it?

You reported this post, but you are just as guilty as the other guy.

I mean I did preface my post with this stating I did search both last night and this morning.. Regardless, I followed your step-by-step instructions and stilll could not find anything about the amount of waivers, except that you got in with 14.  Maybe I'm just not able to meet the dumb requirement, because I can assure you I haven't been lazy.  Thanks, though.

Edit: I guess I was more or less looking for an opinion of the already experienced board on if the kinds of waivers and the amount of them was too much.  Sorry if this is not allowed, or not quite explicitly stated anywhere in my post. =/

You will have to ask the DoD about that one.  All I knew was iff you take Ritalin (Methylphenidate) then, again in my day, it was not waiverable for admission into the US Armed Forces.

Send me a pm, we will discuss things via email, it will be easier I think. 14 was short, didnt count my waivers AFTER getting into the navy ;)
