LaSalle 1 trips offline, unscheduled outage underway

LaSalle 1 began an unscheduled forced short outage on 2026-05-27, ending a 147-day streak of operation without an unscheduled outage. NukeWorker projections estimate the duration of this event at about 4 days.

This is the first forced outage for the 1,131-MW General Electric BWR/5 unit in 2026, following two forced outages recorded during 2025. Constellation Nuclear operates this unit alongside 20 other U.S. nuclear units. Across the industry, the current fleet capacity factor is 94.4 percent, with 94 units online, four units in refueling, and one unit in an unscheduled outage.

MARSEILLES, IL — An unscheduled outage at LaSalle 1 began on May 27, 2026. The NRC has not yet issued an event notification for this trip; this post will be updated if one is filed.

This is the first unscheduled outage of 2026 for the unit, which had 2 unscheduled outages in all of 2025. The unit had just returned to service on Feb 27, 2026 from a 19-day refueling outage.
