The Department of Energy approved Xcimer Energy's preconceptual design and technology roadmap for its Athena fusion power plant architecture. This milestone validates the company's technical approach for industrial scale laser fusion and allows the project to proceed toward subsystem testing and engineering validation. The development occurs under the agency's Fusion Milestone Development Program, which aims to support the creation of pilot plant designs within the next decade.
