Just starting out in the nuclear field. I have an Q and U clearance.

 I have an Q and U clearance. I work in the decommissioning part of a nuclear fuel plant. I would love to stay in the field. Where to go to find a job in decommissioning? I wish I could get into a RT job.

I work have my 40 hour hazwhopper training. I have little of college exp. I did all the numac paperwork. I have less then a year in the business. Thank you for the reply.

Hey John welcome to nukeworker,

You will need a little more experiance under your belt.  Give yourself a good year or two, educate yourself on what you want to do in your nuke career and gear your resume towards that.  If its RT you want then start looking into what it takes to become an RT, that simple.  You may want to get yourself at least an associates degree from a local community college in science, engineering, and some colleges that are close to nuke sites actually have programs tailored specifically to the nuclear field. 

Just some things to think about.  With the current drain of workers and none backfilling those slots the field is wide open to make a good career out of the nuclear industry.

One more thought, do you want to work at a commercial nuke plant or a department of energy site (DOE), just something else to consider.

The important thing (if you want to keep working DOE) is to keep your clearance active (stay employed) while you are looking for the 'perfect' job...even if that means being an escort...  Once they de-activate your clearance (which I think happens as soon as you are unemployed?), it's extremely unlikely you will get anyone to re-activate it.

If they de-activate your clearance so fast how does these people who just work outage keep their clearances active?
