New York lawmakers are considering legislation to impose a 30-month moratorium on new nuclear projects to allow for a formal cost assessment. The proposal challenges Governor Kathy Hochul's plan to add five gigawatts of nuclear capacity by 2033. If passed, the bill would delay current efforts by the New York Power Authority to identify developers for future reactor sites across the state.

The legislation from state Sen. Kevin Parker and Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon, both Brooklyn Democrats, would place a 30-month hold on new nuclear projects in the state to allow for a comprehensive assessment.
