The NukeWorker Reactor Status Map

If you have ever wanted to know which plants are running, which are down for an outage, and which one just tripped offline, all on a single screen, that is exactly what the NukeWorker Reactor Status Map on our home page is for. It pulls from the NRC daily reactor status reports, so what you are looking at is current.

Here is how to read it.

Every reactor is a little cooling tower, and its color tells you how hard that unit is working:

• Green means full power.
• As a unit backs down, the color slides from green through yellow toward orange. A minor derate stays close to green, so you can tell a small power reduction from a serious one at a glance.
• Red means the unit is offline for an outage.
• A red marker that pulses is an unplanned trip or a scram, not a planned refueling outage.

A few units wear some extra flair. A white star on the tower marks a breaker-to-breaker champion, one of those workhorses that ran an entire fuel cycle start to finish without coming down. A gold star, with a little burst behind it, is reserved for our elite champions, the ones with the strongest streaks. A purple outline means the unit is on a breaker-to-breaker run right now. And operating units even puff a little steam when you zoom in. (Yes, I had some fun with that part.)

By default the map shows what most of you came to see, the outages and reduced-power units. Flip the toggle to "Show All" and the whole fleet lights up, online units included.

Click any unit and you get the quick-look card: the plant's photo (click it to jump to the full page), the unit name, its reactor type and operator, its current status, how many megawatts it is putting out against its full capacity along with the grid market it feeds, and a button straight to the full facility page for even more detail.

That home page map is the quick view. When you want to really dig in, open the full interactive map. It carries the entire global fleet, not just the U.S. units running today but shutdown plants, units under construction, reactors overseas, and even the fuel-cycle facilities. The filter panel under the map lets you slice the whole fleet by reactor type, region, status, operator, and even the reactor vendor that built each unit.
