Private Message Error

Hey Renn.  Trying to send instant messages and it keeps saying "database error".  Any ideas?  Couldn't PM you as it wouldn't send!  Thanks

I've had the same problem.  Try to load any forum members into a personal message and you get a big X against trying to send them anything.  Doesn't seem to matter who.

Thanks for the heads up, both of you. Here's what happened: we recently switched the database over to "strict mode," which makes it a lot pickier about how data gets saved. That flipped on an old leftover in one of the forum tables from many, many years ago, a quirk that had been sitting there harmlessly the whole time because the looser old settings just ignored it. Strict mode wouldn't let it slide, so it started blocking PMs from sending.

It's fixed now and PMs are working again. Go ahead and resend whatever failed, nothing from the busted attempts got saved so you'll have to retype them.

We're actively working on a lot of different parts of the site right now, so if you notice anything acting weird anywhere, not just PMs, let us know and we'll get on it. Appreciate you flagging this one.

The big red next to their name is a button to click on to remove/delete that persons name from the message. If you hover over the red , a tool tip will say "Delete Item".

That one is a feature! Not a Bug!
