BREAKING: DOE Awards First Civil Nuclear Credit Payment to California Power Plant

The U.S. Department of Energy provided $271 million to Pacific Gas and Electric under the Civil Nuclear Credit Program to support continued operations at the Diablo Canyon Power Plant. This funding aims to maintain the facility's 2,240 MWe of baseload generation capacity for the California grid. The plant, which provides nearly ten percent of the state's electricity, was previously scheduled to cease commercial operations by 2025.

WASHINGTON — Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) awarded Pacific Gas and Electric $271 million to help support Diablo Canyon Power Plant's extended operations.

A win for President Trump's energy agenda, funding will allow the power plant to continue to provide secure power to residents, while keeping thousands of high-paying jobs in the region.
