Another nuclear facility coming to Oak Ridge. The old K-25 now the East Tennessee Technology park where most of the facilities are being built is only a ten-minute drive from my place. Lots of new jobs here just not for an old retired guy. The K-25 museum is worth a look, I found it interesting. There was what looked like a fire engine there that was a criticality engine that would have sprayed boron on an inadvertent criticality which never happened. Never seen one before or even knew one existed.

LIS Technologies has initiated environmental assessments and technical feasibility studies at its 206-acre site in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This work supports the development of the proposed LEU-3 facility, which aims to utilize laser-based isotope separation technology. The company plans to establish a commercial uranium enrichment campus on the former K-25 site.

The project represents a $1.38 billion investment intended to expand domestic nuclear fuel production capabilities. By pursuing laser enrichment, the company seeks to provide an alternative to traditional centrifuge and gas diffusion methods. Successful site characterization is required to support the upcoming Nuclear Regulatory Commission environmental impact statement process for the facility.
