The nuclear industry faces a shortage of certified tradespeople necessary to meet construction demands for new reactor projects. Nuclear projects require workers who can meet precise documentation and inspection standards, such as those defined by ASME Section IX. Building a reactor of any size or design depends absolutely on that workforce. The people have to be trained and certified to nuclear standards, and their work has to pass exacting inspection against those standards. Every concrete pour and every weld needs paperwork that proves it complied. Failure here is not an option, and the industry has already seen what failure costs.
