Nusano has released operational details for its National Reactor Innovation Center project, which focuses on developing a direct metallization high-assay low-enriched uranium production line. The company plans to use a proprietary single-pass separation technique that avoids fluoridated gas, aiming for a 2031 operational date. This initiative contributes to ongoing Department of Energy efforts to expand domestic HALEU production capacity outside of traditional centrifuge methods.

At the end of August, Utah-based company Nusano was chosen as one of the second-round selections by the National Reactor Innovation Center for a project through its Nuclear Energy Launch Pad.

Yesterday, the company announced the details of that project, which will focus on high-assay low-enrichment uranium production. This turn to enrichment comes as the company continues to develop a radioisotope production facility in Utah.

Project details: According to Nusano, through Launch Pad, it will "develop its direct metallization HALEU nuclear fuel production line." While the company has not yet stated where its NRIC-backed project will be based, it did state that it is participating specifically in the Launch Pad USA program.
