Capenhurst is a nuclear site in Cheshire, England, built on the grounds of a former wartime munitions factory. After the Second World War the Ministry of Supply chose it for a gaseous diffusion plant to enrich uranium for the British nuclear weapons program.

The gaseous diffusion plant began producing low enriched uranium for the Windscale piles in 1953, and weapons-grade uranium production started in 1954. The plant was expanded in 1959, military use ended in 1961, and about 90 percent of the plant closed in 1962. Urenco was formed in 1971, and its pilot centrifuge plant E21 began operation at Capenhurst in 1976. Decommissioning of the diffusion plant began in 1982, the year the larger centrifuge plant E22 started up. Construction of centrifuge plant E23 began in 1997.
