Construction of the first two units, 220 MW pressurized heavy water reactors of Indian design, began on 1 December 1984 and 1 April 1985. Unit 1 was connected to the grid on 24 November 1992 and Unit 2 on 4 March 1995. Two larger 700 MW units of the same reactor family were started on 22 November 2010. Unit 3 was grid-connected on 10 January 2021 and Unit 4 on 20 February 2024.
