New NNPTC Instructor Questions
« on: Mar 01, 2009, 09:31 »
I have a friend who in Newport RI...he started down the OCS path (BCDP Nuke) and injured his elbow...he is not allowed to do push ups.  He mentioned something in his letters about being medically discharged and that the Navy may try to keep him as an Instructor at Power School....what does that entail? Can he still do this if he is medically discharged?

From what I can find...it goes...

ODS (5 weeks)
Training in Charleston (4mo.)
and then the remaining time of 4 years is spent teaching....

Training path looks right....

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.....

Teaching at NNPTC is the best job I ever had in the Navy.

It depends on how bad his elbow is.  If it's so bad he can't do pushups at OCS, he may not be eligible for a comission.  But if he's still medically qualified to be a restricted line officer then he could probably do the instructor program.  He would likely have to go back to NR and reinterview for it though.

Your training path is correct.

Thanks for the info...interesting that he would have to reinterview for a spot...since he was already in the program. But I guess they interview for different expertise/experiences/career goals in each program.

I'm not sure about the elbow, he only mentioned that the OCS docs said nothing could be done.  It seemed like a pain that would not go away and he went to get it checked out, and bigger issues were found.
