NAPT Requirements
« on: Sep 17, 2009, 04:18 »
OK. So I've been looking into joining the navy for a wial now but I didn't make the required BMI so my processing stopped at medical for the last 3 months. I got a 95 on my ASVAB and my recruiter said I'd make nuke easy; which is all well and good cuz i wanted to go nuke anyway. I have known about the line score reqs. but i read here that the gen rule of thumb was 85+ usually didn't have to take it so I finally make my weight (a whole 113lbs at 5'7") and I'm ready to sign papers. well I find out that the min line score req for nuc is 252 and I received 251(isn't that something).

What I want to know is what score i need to get on the NAPT to qualify for nuke? I found on this forum that your Nuc line score and what ever you get on the NAPT has to add up to 290. I want to know if this is still true b/c if it is all i need to get is a 39 which should be a walk in the park if what I've gathered about the test is true.

Also one other thing I'm curious about. I asked the job councilor at MEPS if I had made nuke yesterday when I would have expected my ship date to be? He told me that it would be no sooner that May. I've herd that if I have to be in DEP for 6 months or more I can get a larger bonus. I've herd a number of variations of this, things like you get $100 for every month in DEP or it only applies if you're finishing up collage and a couple other things. If anyone could shed some light on that I would appreciate it.

You should have no problem with the NAPT.

Also, I believe that you are talking about the navy CASH program, not DEP. I would recommend that you look into the CASH program prior to entering the navy. A few english courses may help you out.

you're finishing up collage

Normally, for finishing a collage, I prefer a thin layer of non-glossing shellac.

"It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words."

I don't butcher my words on purpose. Always been more of a math and science kind of fellow.

So any specific info on what I need to score on the NAPT?

Also my recruiter called me up today and said I should sign on as CTI and then go nuke when I'm in DEP. I take the NAPT next week so I don't think it's really needed and I've seen here people saying if I want nuke I shouldn't sign anything that isn't nuke. Should I just wait?

Score high on the NAPT then wait for what you want.  There is time to prepare yourself mentally for the next 6 years of your life.

That's not entirely correct...

According to card carrying linguistics professionals at an unnamed, university in British Columbia, and contrary to the dubious claims of the uncited research, a simple, mechanical inversion of internal characters appears sufficient to confuse the everyday onlooker.

The moral of the story?  Slpeling coutns.

If people have been giving the same advice here time after time why do you think they'd say anything different in your case?
