In most of the nuclear reactors now operating, the nuclear core is placed in a pool of water. That prevents radiation from escaping into the air, but as the nuclear reaction heats up the water, cooler water must be constantly pumped in.

Sounds like a Safety man's nightmare. That would make all of it's waste Mixed Waste.

it could also make a market for all the slightly contaminated lead now going into LLRW or industrial disposal sites,...

might even make it viable to reclaim that lead for reuse,... [coffee]

been there, dun that,... the doormat to hell does not read "welcome", the doormat to hell reads "it's just business"
