General Atomics is collaborating with the U.S. Department of Energy and Idaho National Laboratory to design a Fusion Blanket Component Test Facility. The project aims to evaluate integrated blanket systems that capture energy and produce tritium. The facility will utilize existing infrastructure at the company's Magnet Technologies Center in San Diego.

Fusion blankets are required to manage heat removal, mechanical stress, and fuel extraction at power plant scales. This facility provides a platform to qualify these components before moving to complex neutron and tritium testing. By de-risking these designs, the project seeks to transition fusion technology from theoretical research toward commercial power generation.
