U.S. fusion companies are transitioning from experimental research to the development of commercial power plants. While current facilities like the National Ignition Facility focus on gathering data through complex, custom diagnostics, future reactors require automated, reliable, and robust instrumentation capable of operating under continuous, high-flux neutron and gamma radiation environments.

The shift toward commercialization necessitates a move from delicate, research-grade sensors to hardened, compact systems that can withstand extreme heat and radiation. Engineers must balance the need for precise control systems with the practical requirements of long-term maintenance and cost-effective operations, as current experimental setups are not designed for repetitive, high-yield power production.
