Savannah River National Laboratory and 3D Systems have launched a collaborative facility at the University of South Carolina Aiken to develop industrial 3D printing for nuclear and energy applications. The partnership aims to produce complex metal components for power plants while providing specialized training for students and industry technicians. This initiative focuses on transitioning additive manufacturing technologies from laboratory research into commercial production for the energy sector.

Savannah River National Laboratory is partnering with 3D Systems to push forward industrial 3D printing for key projects.

The work will be based at the lab's new Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative at the University of South Carolina Aiken. The idea is to bring together federal scientists, university researchers and industry engineers under one roof.

A big target is nuclear energy and the wider power grid. Advanced 3D printers can create complex metal parts that are very hard, or sometimes impossible, to make with traditional tools. That could help power plants and other energy facilities get critical parts faster and more cheaply.
