Savannah River National Laboratory and 3D Systems have signed a cooperative research agreement to advance additive manufacturing for nuclear energy and national security. The partnership utilizes the laboratory's Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative to integrate artificial intelligence, machine learning, and new materials into production processes. This effort aims to bridge laboratory research with industrial readiness.

The collaboration focuses on fabricating complex components from advanced alloys that are difficult to produce through conventional methods. By combining commercial 3D printing platforms with expertise in nuclear materials, the initiative seeks to improve energy infrastructure resilience. The project also includes workforce development training to prepare technicians and engineers for emerging roles in the nuclear and defense manufacturing sectors.

AIKEN, S.C. — Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) recently announced a cooperative research and development agreement with the company 3D Systems to accelerate innovation in additive manufacturing for advanced energy generation and national security applications.

The partnership centers on leveraging the unique position of SRNL's Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative (AMC) as South Carolina's only national laboratory-operated site located on a public university campus. The AMC marked its first year this summer.
