The Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management completed multiple cleanup milestones during the first year under Senate-confirmed Assistant Secretary Tim Walsh. Projects included finishing the removal of uranium tailings at the Moab Site, initiating tank waste vitrification at Hanford, and advancing ventilation upgrades at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant.

The agency is also repurposing remediated Cold War sites into American Energy Hubs to support private investments in nuclear fuel facilities, advanced manufacturing, and computing infrastructure. These initiatives aim to accelerate cleanup timelines, reduce long-term nuclear waste, and strengthen the domestic fuel cycle for advanced reactors.
