The Department of Energy has started site preparation at the Hanford Site for the Advanced Modular Pretreatment System. The new facility aims to triple the site processing capacity for radioactive tank waste to 3.6 million gallons annually. This expansion supports ongoing cleanup operations by pretreating waste before final vitrification or grouting.

"The work we are doing today prepares the site for a higher-capacity tank-side treatment that will allow us to dispose of tank waste more quickly as part of our dual glass-plus-grout strategy."
