I havn't been there in a few years, but it was a good place to work at. The house people would always work with you anf the support people always gave you a hand.
I heard that it's changed some, with the new management...just have to waite and see ???

HouseSnake

Was there '92 / '94 - always stayed at Port Paradise - 3 bars - no waiting.
Remember some tech chewing mints as we escorted the RCP Impeller around outside so that nobody could smell his breath.
Nice folks, great area.

The Head is going to be on site sometime late this summer.
Should be a fairly good outage, unfortunely it will be right in the middle of the fall outage season.
Hope to see ya'all there!

SloGlo

jjordan... i dunno.  i really don't want to travel during my daughter's senior year in high school.  too many movies with that plot....  but it sounds interesting, specially being able to watch you suffle bundles around. ::)

How's the new RPM working out at CR?

Nice guy but INPO to the core.  Hope he don't get pancaked during the refuel

meterion

I have been here a year and have had my doubts at times.
Overall the people are nice but have some problems adapting  to change. :-/    Given a choice I would have perferred a REAL INPO 1 plant.

In Crystal River, you are either part of the gene pool or part of the food chain.

HEY DAYWORK,
CAN YOU SAY MORE? FIRST TIMER THERE AND I LIKE TO KNOW THE INS AND OUTS...

radrebel

All I will say is it is a different company since CPL took over.  Production is first.
INPO RPM = trouble

JessJen

Wasn't bad, wasn't great either considering it was my first.  Met some cool people though. Just one phrase sums up my entire experience there, NO MORE POWER VISORS!!!!!!!!!!!
Guess what I got to do all outage lol. ;D

Real_Old_Guy

It was a VERY interesting outage.Hard to believe they have done it 12 times before, as this was less organized than some of the first outages in the 70's.HP site coordinator quit because of problems with the new RPM. Fortunately I never had the opportunity to meet Mr. NEW RPM. so I was able to escape with part of my sanity and a little pride.
On the positive side I lost 10 pounds during the outage due to heat and CR3's new paper anti-Cs. Definitely not a user friendly site. Having worked there before it is now in the list of " been there don't want to go back again plants.

homerjay

Did the project come in on time?  Just curious.

Progress Energy runs it now? How does it compare between now and before they stepped in?

Crystal River was the first plant I worked after Uncle Sams Canoe Club. That was before FFD. At the time if you came thru the gate straight, on time, not holding, and made a reasonable attempt to do your job, you were considered a "Super-Tech" We were supposed to be working 3-10 hr shifts, but the house lead always let us go early when the oncoming shift arrived and beat us to the end of the access road for the "one for the road" beer tailgate held at the end of each shift. We had a rotational list of whose turn it was to bring the beer. I got to sample so many kinds/brands cause we all tried to bring something someone else hadn't.
There once was a nuclear protest group at our tailgate spot. We found out why they protested there---you couldn't drive to an oil slick, and most of the guys were there cause most of the girls were T-shirt/braless. I think a bunch of them became nukes after they talked to us.

Heard there were LHRA violations and INPO had a field day.  House Puke, didn't he work with you at Calvert?

HousePuke

Yep, he worked at Calvert as a Health Physicist, Assistant General Supervisor and then on to INPO.
Initially we did not get along well at all.  We eventually reached an understanding and by the time he left for Crystal River we got along fairly well.
I don't know what the issues are at CR, but I wish you the best of luck.
I hear they are looking for a new HP Supervisor.  True?

If anyone has a favorite hang out, place to shop, or local information for this area please post it here.

Do your yourself a favor and go to the Rainbow River, I promise you that once you jump in the cool, crisp, clear water of this river your life will change for the better.

This area, Homassas Springs and a few other isolated spots, are what Florida used to be like. Believe it or not (forget Ripley's) we took our children on a vacation a few years back and never once visited a theme park and we spent a wonderful week seeing FLORIDA.

Doc_REM

So what going no there now...just want to know?
should I go back there?
