Breaker-to-Breaker Runs
7 runs
?
Breaker-to-breaker runs measure continuous operation between refueling outages using a cycle-adjusted threshold (90% of cycle length minus RFO duration). An active streak means the unit has been running continuously since the last refueling with no trips to 0% power.
Millstone 3 has logged 7 breaker-to-breaker runs, continuous stretches from one refueling to the next with no trip to zero power. Its longest ran 586 days, and its runs average 512 days.

Millstone Nuclear Power Station is at Waterford, in New London County, Connecticut, on Long Island Sound, on the site of a former quarry. It was built with three units.

Construction began on Unit 1 (General Electric boiling water reactor) in May 1966, Unit 2 (Combustion Engineering pressurized water reactor) in November 1969, and Unit 3 (Westinghouse pressurized water reactor) in August 1974. They connected to the grid in 1970, 1975 and 1986. A leaking valve in February 1996 led to the shutdown of all the reactors for repairs. Unit 3 restarted in July 1998 and Unit 2 in May 1999. Unit 1 was permanently shut down in July 1998, because the cost of fixing its safety issues was too high.
