Breaker-to-Breaker Runs
6 runs
?
Breaker-to-breaker runs measure continuous operation between refueling outages using a cycle-adjusted threshold (90% of cycle length minus RFO duration). An active streak means the unit has been running continuously since the last refueling with no trips to 0% power.
Vogtle 1 has logged 6 breaker-to-breaker runs, continuous stretches from one refueling to the next with no trip to zero power. Its longest ran 529 days, and its runs average 506 days.

Units 1 and 2 are Westinghouse four-loop pressurized water reactors. Construction began on August 1, 1976, and commercial operation began on June 1, 1987, for Unit 1 and May 20, 1989, for Unit 2. A loss of vital power at both units in 1990 led to a site area emergency, later downgraded to an alert. Units 3 and 4 are Westinghouse AP1000 reactors, with construction beginning on March 12, 2013, and November 19, 2013. Westinghouse filed for bankruptcy in 2017, and Southern Nuclear took over construction management. Unit 3 entered commercial operation on July 31, 2023, and Unit 4 on April 29, 2024.
