I will have a 5 Ci AmBe neutron source mounted on a vertical track of 4 meters. Can any one tell me that what's the maximum neutron dose rate I could get from this source (say in 20 cm distance), and the minimum as well? Any response will be much appreciated.

My first post.

Try this link http://www.nukeworker.com/forum/index.php/topic,25116.0.html.  It discusses Ra-Be source, but I think that the protocol is correct - just change the numbers.

Does your facility have a current ASTM subscription?

No, not to my knowledge.
why is it related to my question, has ASTM published any thing on this subject?

thanks,

Marlin

Seems odd that a source that large does not have paperwork with it. Does it have a manufacturers name plate on it, that could be your best bet if there is no paper work on file.

The information found there is basically what I need at the moment. Thanks for the link.

The source is not in my possesion (not yet), perhaps not yet manufactured. I just need some rough figures now for planning purpose. Perhaps, I should have done more readings myself before asking...
