UA denied what are my chances for a sucessfull apeal?

I am 22 years old and just graduated with a bachelors degree in physics, for the last few years I have been focusing my course work to land a job in the nuclear industry. I have worked as medical standby for outages at a natural gas plant during my time at college and was granted a fob that allowed me to go anywhere I wanted to go.  After months of applying I was finally called in for interviews and eventually an offer was extended for an engineering position. my start date was supposed to be July 14th (supervisor wanted me in on the 7th) but I got an email yesterday telling me they weren't going further in the hiring process. When I called to ask why they told me I was denied UA. I haven't received a letter yet explaining why but the only think I can think of that would be a problem was an issue that happened in a school club. Someone was offended by an email I sent because it contained profanity and tried to seek disciplinary action. I was told the issue was kept in house and was suspended for a week from the school club. A few months later I received an email from the judicial office at the school requesting I come in and talk to them about it, I brought all my paperwork and explained everything to them and they told me there wasn't a problem because it was handled internally and to just send them an essay and it would be over with. I didn't think that would be considered disciplinary action by the school because it was handled internally by the club and the school dismissed it, there was no suspension or any ruling by the university and I had no reason to believe it would be on record.  If it did happen to be on record and I failed to report it and that was the issue would there be any chance for a successful appeal? I have never been arrested or had any problems with drugs or alcohol, I was flagged for a psych interview after taking the written test but i felt the interview with the Dr went well and cleared up my reasoning for why I answered questions they way I did. Any help would be appreciated, Thank you.

There is the root cause. The doc will never tell you in the interview if you are pass or fail the screen, because the final decision is made by the MRO that you never meet. Does that process sound somewhat subjective and arbitrary? Perhaps, but it has kept the nuclear industry generally free of the worst elements of society for quite some time, and isn't going to change any time soon.

Always tell the truth when answering questions....but sometimes good people overthink the depth and intent of the questions wayyyyy beyond what the authors intended. Which, by the way, helps weed out the OCD applicants

I would wait until you get the official reply as to why you are not being granted unescorted access. Right now you are only speculating and you probably should not have been speculating on a public forum because now it is public knowledge. They should tell you why you aren't being grated access. If you keep changing your story, they will consider it an integrity issue and then there will be a very slim chance for a successful appeal.

So its been a few months and I have gotten no response from anyone. I called the guy in charge of access for the plant and he told me I was denied because the psychologist said there was a discrepancy between what I answered in my psych test and what I told her during the interview... They told me they cant tell me any specifics because everything I said to the psychologist is confidential. So do they actually know why and they can't tell me or do they not know either? What will they tell another plant when they call to find out why I was denied access? How am I supposed to move forward from this? I'm taking some tests for an AO position next week at a different companies plant but I am worried that its going to be all for nothing when I tell them I was denied at another plant. From what I read even though the denial was for one year it stays in the system for 5, is there a greater chance of gaining access after the one year period or will it be a struggle as long as it shows up in the system?

They obviously just felt you were untrustworthy or unreliable and that is essentially why you were denied. They based it off your MMPI/Interview. Really not a whole lot one can do in that situation, you can appeal but slim chance of winning it.

To answer your questions, yes another plant will find out why you were denied access. Your denial was only for a year so it's not the end of the world. I would probably wait the year to pass because it might be tough to get another utility to badge you due to the nature of your denial.

Once the year passes you will have a greater chance of getting in. Maybe you tried to hard on the MMPI. Some people try to hard to answer it the "right way" and end up screwing themselves when their MMPI gets flagged and need an interview.

Regardless, it isn't the end of the line for you but definitely be as upfront as possible with everything. It helps a lot trust me.

I passed the bmst and poss. My interview is scheduled a few days from now. Should I tell hr or the recruiter or the people interviewing me about my denial at the other site?(which happens to be right next door) I don't want them to disqualify me because I am restricted from having access at another company's plants but I also don't want to make them think I am trying to hide it. If I do tell someone who should it be and should I do it before the interview?

If they are bringing you in for an interview and a tour of the plant they will know about it already when they submit you for a visitor badge. Like everyone has told you already don't try to hide anything. Complete honesty is what they are looking for!

I was extended an offer for an AO position. I never had to go threw any security check to get in to take the tests or for the interview they were both done in the training building and I was never given a tour of the plant. Would it be a bad idea to ask my recruiter about the other plant's denial when he calls this week to tell me about the next steps in the process? If they extended an offer does that mean they already know what happened? I'm just trying to figure out the best thing to do in order to get a favorable outcome. Any advice is Appreciated.
