Yeah, the bigger threat is non-radioactive radiation damaging non-biological tissue... like a kleenex

I think they are trying to explain free radical formation and the additional electrons from interactions are Compton interactions certainly. But "Compton explosions" and such language are not any less scientific than when I was reading in a radiation chemistry text talking about electron interactions as it slowed and created "spurs' and "blobs" (Spinks and Woods textbook descriptors). It's not totally terrible IMO just not very scientific.
