Probably the best obit on President Carter. Not my favorite President but maybe the best Ex President and humanitarian. Despite the Panama Canal and the cancelation of nuclear fuel recycling I have liked him personally as a good man. At the 1ooth birthday of a WWII submariner in my local chapter of the USSVI at the door was a congratulatory note with the presidential seal on it from Carter. Charley Odom had been one of Carters instructors at the submarine school in Connecticut, Carter remembered him after all those many years.

Eternal Patrol is a phrase used for the passing of a submariner coming from the WWII failed to return from patrol presumed lost (eternal patrol). President Carter is now on eternal patrol.

Sailor rest your oars we have the watch.
