Realta Fusion will establish its corporate headquarters and research facility at the former Oscar Mayer site in Madison, Wisconsin. The startup plans to invest $67 million in site improvements and over $500 million in equipment to develop a prototype magnetic mirror fusion machine, aiming to create 600 jobs.

The project relies on $55 million in state and local incentives, including tax credits and exemptions specifically designed to attract fusion technology firms. By leveraging the local talent pipeline from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the company intends to advance fusion toward commercial viability by the mid-2030s, potentially establishing the region as a hub for the emerging sector.

A site that represents Madison's industrial past will get new life as the host of a new research and development facility aimed at helping power the future.

Company says it secured up to $55M in state, local development incentives

After a multi-state search, Realta Fusion selected OM Station, the site of the former Oscar Mayer plant and headquarters, to be its new corporate headquarters and research and development facility, the company announced Wednesday.

Realta Fusion is a Madison startup that formed in 2022, spinning out of work being done at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The company has approximately 50 employees in Madison and expects to eventually employ more than 600 people.
