The visit highlighted how successful cleanup operations at the Idaho National Laboratory Site enable continued nuclear research by meeting regulatory milestones and clearing space for new experimental activities.

These efforts are part of a broader Department of Energy strategy to manage legacy nuclear materials and develop domestic recycling capabilities. By coordinating with international partners in Japan and utilizing advanced testing facilities for waste treatment, the agency aims to reduce long-term environmental liabilities while supporting the expansion of the national nuclear energy sector.
