The Nuclear Regulatory Commission released a draft environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact regarding the proposed restart of the 562 MWe Duane Arnold facility. This determination suggests the agency will bypass a lengthier environmental impact statement for the project. Public comments on the assessment are being accepted through September 2, with a final decision expected later this year.

On Thursday, the NRC posted a draft environmental assessment and a finding of no significant impact for the Palo, Iowa, facility; the Federal Register notice was published on Monday. The Department of Energy's Office of Energy Dominance Financing is a cooperating agency on the draft EA, as the DOE is considering providing financial assistance to the restart project.
