IP2 is what it is. They have a confrontational style of management founded on the belief that the other guy is always out to get you. A self fullfiing prophecy. They often made the other guy want to get them just because of the treatment they got. The people there adapt to that mentality. A new person coming to IP2 for the first time would often get ignored to insulted until the people got to know them. And then rude was the style of personal interaction. Once you got used to it, it was tolerable. I have to admit that I have not been back since '93. A combination of bad behavior, bad traffic, long commutes, ghetto living conditions, high cost of living, and inadequate per diem leaves this place as a low choice. Not all the new Jrs of the 80s vintage were whiners. They all adapted to their environment in their own way.

For the most part the folks that run that place seemed to view anyone not from that area as an inbreed. They sorely lack for even moderate management that cares for more than themselves. And what an ugly place. [smiley=smash.gif] [smiley=smash.gif]

Decorum and the Moderators prevent me from expressing what I felt after having worked IP-2

popdaddy:

Are you saying that Indian Point as a whole be shut down?  If you are unable to draw a distinction between the operating units, than perhaps you have been away for so long that you are suggesting that unit 1 be shut down.

Not being a union member and coming from out-of-town, found the place to be moderately uncooperative, at the worker-level, when trying to expedite objectives.  Decerned a bit of management-labor tension about the place.

Too bad they're so high-profile and stressed now.  Prevaling pucker-factor seems to have cost a bud of mine his job last season, for what would've ordinarily been blown off as superfluous, yet irreverent, chatter anywhere else. [smiley=poke2.gif]

Your getting a 2 day notice.

today your leaving and they do that on a monday so you can pay a whole week at the motel your staying at and get screwed out of your money.

LadyRad, although I said that IP-2 could use a bit more umpfh in the human relations and teamwork areas, I too have had an enjoyable tour or two there and wouldn't mind a return tour myself; despite their current state of post-911 anxiety. [smiley=hop_hand.gif]

IP2 has bin berry berry good to me. I have had some enjoyable times there also. They have great restaurants, and there are lots of things to do nearby. The area immediately around the plant is ugly, the cost of living is very high, and the traffic sucks. The attitudes of the people at the plant leaves a little to be desired. I haven't been there in 10 years, and I won't say that I'll never go back (chaos=cash), but there must be a reason that I haven't been back. The extra security measures must add another negative to the list. There certainly is a long list of negatives to tolerate in order to work there.

Well on fox news tonight with shepard smith ip2& 3 made in on.They said if terrorists attacked the plant if there would be a radiation leak it could effect 10 million people in a 50 mile area because their systems, responses and procedures are out of date and lacking and need to be updated. They said it would affect 300k people in a 10 mile area that could maybe die from direct effects. Have these people a clue? ip needs to update the way they treat people though

One good thing I remember from the late 80's was that every desk and cabinet and toolbox seemed to have a stack of porn mags in it

Yes, there are long-standing problems (poor attitude, poor management, different mind-set, processes, pick your favorite..), but nothing can be fixed overnight and it will take time. It has to get better.

One of life's most cruscial lessons is that survival is awarded to those who successfully adapt to environmental fluctuations in a timely manner.  The antithesis of this, of course, is assured extinction.

Ask not for whom the bell tolls.

First, you shouldn't lump IP2 and IP together because they belong to two different companies (with very different management styles), and have since roughly 1978.

Regarding another post: Ghetto living conditions? Huh? The Hudson Valley is beautiful and diverse.  If you choose to live in a dump that's your problem.

I haven't worked there since the early 90's, but I know the area is still WOW. And just an hour  train ride away to NYC. Museums, historical sites, Broadway, Dave Letterman, culture! What's not to like?

Ummmm, Desertdog - IP2 & 3 are under new management, and are one site now. Ever heard of a little company called Entergy ? They were bought well over a year ago. The fence between the sites is down, and while most of the people remain assigned to individual units, they swap back and forth easily, and are under a single VP - Fred Dacimo
