Perry made at least one unfortunate statement: "I'm not sure I want to put that straight out on the free market and build the cheapest delivery system here."  That's how the government does business.  Historically, the private sector, when using its own money, does a much better job than outfits spending government money and/or subsidies.

Public utilities and broadcast communications have had a history of regulation in the public interest. But to your point who is best at delivering our packages USPS or UPS? Maybe a combination as with UPS and USPS. Free market vs public interest? As long as we avoid crony capitalism.
