Considering that my son needs a new pacemaker every 5 to 8 years I'd really love to see the US head this direction.  I know that every replacement is a little harder on him.

Ni-63's betas are so weak we can't even see them with a frisker. During our annual source leak checks we have to send smears of the Ni-63 sources used at the Security trap to chemistry for liquid scintillation.

I remember doing that at Fermi. Used a Styrofoam smear. Liquified the smear and a 24 hour count on liquid scintillation.
