Westinghouse Electric Company completed zero-power criticality testing for its eVinci microreactor at the Nevada National Security Site. Conducted alongside Los Alamos and Idaho National Laboratories, the test validated core design assumptions and modeling for the 5 MWe heat pipe-cooled system. This milestone supports the company's goal to accelerate the deployment of factory-assembled, TRISO-fuelled reactors for remote and specialized energy applications.

The test was completed at the Nevada National Security Site in the US, on Monday at 10:39 local time.

It was carried out in partnership with the Los Alamos and Idaho National Laboratories at the National Criticality Experiments Research Center, a National Nuclear Security Administration facility at the Nevada site.

Westinghouse Chief Technology Officer Lou Martinez Sancho thanked the company's partners for their support, including the US Department of Energy, and said: "This zero-power criticality milestone reflects Westinghouse's heritage of innovation and pushing to the next frontier of nuclear."
