Had a great time at the Creek.  One of those places when you leave you hope the best for them. The whole plant from training to the end was very nice.  The town people were also very nice.   The Cordinator was great (sucking up), but Nightshift Cord was overpaid and didnt do very much.  If you like to eat butter or Crisco its the place to go (inside joke for the nightshift people).  The management of HPs cared for us contractors and that was very nice.  The outage went great except for PZR overlays.  If you want to save all your money its the perfect place to go.(very secluded)  If you got sprint cell phone you wont being making too many phone calls unless you stand on the water tower.  Its Calloway without the breakroom and cards.  And I do wish them the best.

RADBASTARD

I did here that the nightshift cord was way overpaid and didn't do anything.
Anything over waitress wages and they paid him to much. HA HA
I did hear it was a money maker and saver

Just wondering did you guys ever get drained down and the nozzel dams put back in???
Maybe after ft calhoun we can come back to finish your outage?

lauriema19

Yes, drained down and the nozzle dams and manways are all put together. And yes, we can be able to finished this outage soon.

I'm an ex navy nuke (April 08 EAOS) and working for an inspection company.  They're offering me Nuke ASME inspector at Wolf Creek.  Now, I've looked through the forums, city-data, and a few other sites.  I keep coming up with nothing but good news about the place.  I know it's really small-town, but I'm moving with my wife and kids so that's a plus (I think.)

Is it really as good as I keep reading?  Please hit me with any and all pertinent info.  Thanks in advance.

Creeker

Hi Adam,

I wouldn't want to work anywhere else.  Came here straight out of the Nav in 2004.  Lets see...

Schools - A single elem and middle and HS serve Burlington and New Strawn.  They used the revenue from Wolf Creek very well, and have good teachers, curriculum, sports, and facilities.

Town - Small.  One grocery store, one dept store, 3 gas stations, 2 stop lights, pizza hut, DQ, Sonic, Subway...  And misc little things.  Travel about 45 minutes to get to Walmart, and about an hour to get to Topeka.

Traffic - None, cept around the access road/gate during outage times.

People - Friendly here, friendly in town.

Crime - It exists, but at such a low level that it's of very little concern.

Things to do - Hunting, fishing, camping, boating... All big players..

Hope that helps.. I'll send you a PM as well...

Bill

Okay, so I'm out here in Burlington (wow is it cold, ~15F).  Really nice town with nice people.  Quiet and small.  First place I've ever been where people can successfully navigate a four way stop.  My wife likes it a lot here, too.  The rec center is great and we're having a look at the hospital tomorrow (we're expecting in June).  Once I get the formal offer from my company I'll know whether we're moving or not.  To anyone looking at coming out here, it looks great for families but looks boring for singles.

If I take it I suppose I'll see a lot of you for the fall outage.

An exceptionally well run plant staffed with very friendly people. Good cafeteria, clean plant but in the middle of nowhere.

From what I've seen (all in the admin building, mostly planners, NDE engineers, and QA personnel), everybody is really top notch.

NuclearBob

I have to agree with Adam.  All of the people I have ever worked with from Wolf Creek have been top notch.  Seems like they have a really good Management and Supervisory team.  I would live in Emporia if it were me.  Nice small town...

As a new employee myself as well as my husband I can say so far its been great.  Im sure glad your wife came out here with you so she could look at everything its definately a good idea when your moving for work.  Glad to hear your expecting in June, as far as my experience of the Coffey County Medical Center it has been great very well managed and friendly staff.  Im sure you will be seeing a very good doctor for your baby our child goes to Dr. Braun. As far as living in a small town its great,  not alot to do but once you have that baby you wont have much time for the couples thing.  I wish you good luck in your new job and I hope that you and your family enjoy staying here and that you enjoy Wolf Creek I know I have.  Maybe we will see you around town or at work.

Thanks,  we just accepted the offer and will be out there this summer.  Please PM me the info on Dr. Braun.  If anyone knows of any rentals available in July that would be great, too.

Anyone know of openings at wolf creek? I have searched all the sites, and it would appear that they are fully staffed right now...but it never hurts to ask!

Creeker

ELT, the Wolf Creek openings are generally listed on a site called kansasjoblinks.com.  I'll look around, but we just staffed a new NSO class... On the other hand, I've heard that we may hire off site for instant SRO's... This class is starting early next year.  Qualifications will be a degree, engineering, or the TESC will do fine, and PPWS quals.  You can IM me if you want more details.  Nothing that I know of up and coming in maintenance.

ELT1/SS/DV

Thanks. I did find an outage posting for HP's etc. which I applied for.
I would really rather get something permanent as I have a family, but I would probably consider anything to get my foot back in the industry door. I am in the oil field now involved with drilling directional wells but we are getting hit hard by the financial meltdown. Mouths to feed, etc. so I am keeping all options on the table.

I did 6 and got out, and unfortunately did not finish EOOW/EWS quals before getting out, so I thing RO/SRO is probably out of reach for me.
I do like the area though, so hopefully an opportunity opens up.
Thanks for you help and let me know if anything pops up. :)

I'm here!  I'm finishing up my OJT and will be designated the new full time ANII next week.  We found a place in Emporia, and will be moving in soon.  It's really good to be getting started in the plant and looking forward to the upcoming outage.  Anyone working at the plant is invited to stop by.  I'm upstairs from QA.

Slaughterhouses and -10 winters are there to keep y'all city folks out  :P

Creeker

Happily, Tysons is currently closed down, which took our Somali guests which that company imported to other localities.  So, the smell is gone, for now, and the social integration problems are gone as well.

Adam Grundleger

Just moved here.  Nice town.  Pretty, clean and very country.  Everbody's been pretty nice so far and the slaughterhouse problem is long gone.  Tyson still processes here, but without the kill floor there's no smell.  Dolly Madison makes the northwest part of town smell like frosting, but I don't mind that much. Wife and kids like it a whole lot better than Atlanta.  PM me if you have specific questions.

RDTroja

If you are looking for a town that smells good, work at TMI and live in Hershey... smells exactly like you would expect in Chocolate Town, USA.  :)

Lots of house jobs here.  Ops, Maintenance, and HP/RP.  Go to www.kansasjoblink.com (not 100% sure on the link) and they should have listings.  If you want a more direct approach, PM me and I'll see if I can get you a straight shot to HR.  I'm a resident contractor, but I can probably get you where you need to go.  (6 and out MM1/ELT/SS myself and I really lucked out getting the job I have.  If I can help, I will.)
