HB Robinson
The 5,000-acre site near Hartsville, South Carolina, includes the source of cooling water for the reactor. The H.B. Robinson power plant does not rely on nuclear power alone. In fact, unit 1 is a coal-fired generator. The Robinson Nuclear Plant, located on Lake Robinson near Hartsville, South Carolina, is a landmark facility in the region’s energy history. It was the first nuclear plant in the southeastern United States to enter commercial service, with Unit 2 beginning operation in 1971. The station has a generating capacity of 759 megawatts—enough to supply electricity to more than 569,000 homes. Recognized within the industry for its innovation and operational excellence, Robinson has received a 20-year operating license extension from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), ensuring its continued role in reliable, carbon-free power generation for decades to come.
